Victorian Essential Learning Standards in a nutshell!
The curriculum is organised across the four Primary Levels:
Level 1 – Prep
Level 2 – Years 1 and 2
Level 3 – Years 3 and 4
Level 4 – Years 5 and 6
The three VELS strands are interwoven and work together in an integrated way to provide a
comprehensive curriculum which aims to develop learning skills, knowledge and social competencies
throughout the educational experience.
The three VELS Strands are:
- Physical, Personal and Social Learning
- Discipline Based Learning
- Inter disciplinary Learning
In each strand there are Domains.
These Domains provide the basis of how, what and why children learn through all curriculum areas.
