Absences
Attendance at school is compulsory. Attendances are recorded twice daily. Parents need to inform the school by letter or verbally about their children’s absences.
Assembly
A full school assembly is held every Friday morning at 9am. All parents and friends are welcome. The National Anthem, Achievement awards, Sports results etc are all presented at assembly.
Student Banking
Bank collection day is Tuesday. Please enquire at the office if your child is interested in opening a bank account.
Booklists
School Council has approved a booklist charge. We have an excursion levy which includes most sporting events, visiting speakers, life education, gymnastics, activities to compliment the themes being studied within the classroom.
Camps and Excursions
Camps and excursions are an integral and essential part of the school program and may be offered from years 2 to 6.
Canteen
Yarra Glen Primary School has a canteen that operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday operated by Canteen Co-ordinator Janene Pomeroy and parent volunteers.

Emergency Procedures
Yarra Glen Primary School has an emergency evacuation plan in the event of any situation out of the normal running of the school day.
Lunch / Play lunch arrangements
Children eat lunches in their classrooms from 11.00 am – 11.10 am then play time until 12 noon.
Children eat play lunch in their classroom from 2.00 pm – 2.05 pm then play time until 2:30pm.
Newsletters
Newsletters are sent home and will be uploaded to the website each Thursday. Newsletters are e-mailed on request.

Out of School Hours Program
An independant Out of School Hours program is run by Yarra Glen Childcare Centre.

The morning program is run from the centre and children are walked to school.

The afternoon program is situated at the school. Further enquiries phone 9730 1442.
Parent Participation
Parents are encouraged to assist with a variety of school activities. The school provides an occasional care program (free of charge) one day a week from 9 - 11am for parents with pre school children who would like to help.
Parent and Teacher Communication
It is important that teachers and parents communicate concerning children’s progress. Formal interviews are arranged during the year. Teachers are happy to talk to parents informally at any time throughout the year. Written reports are sent home twice a year for students in Prep to Year 4. Portfolio assessment is sent home at the end of each term for years 5 and 6.
Playground Supervision
Playground supervision by teachers begins at 8.45 am before school, and from 3.30 pm – 3.45 pm after school. Two teachers are on duty at lunch tim and afternoon recess.
Religious Education
Religious education is offered to all students. DEECD has an agreed syllabus which is taken by approved instructors.
Safety House
Yarra Glen has an established Safety House Program.
School Council
This body meets 8 times per year and plays an important part in the overall planning and administration of the school (Refer to School Council page).
School Uniform
Yarra Glen has an official uniform. It is compulsory for students to wear the uniform which is black, red and white. The uniform shop is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:45 - 11:30am.
Transition
Pre school transition and secondary transition programs operate throughout the school year to help pre school children and Year 6 students in their transition from one setting to another.
Treatment of sick or injured children
If children are sick or injured at school we endeavour to take the best possible care. We have a well equipped sick bay in the administration building. All staff are trained in CPR and we have five staff trained in level 2 First Aid.
