OUR GRADE & LEVEL TABS ARE UNDER CONSTRUCTION - PLEASE BEAR WITH US!!
(22/03/2012 ICT Committee)
From the Principal, Joe Pacquola
We have had a busy agenda over the past two weeks with lots of exciting opportunities to engage in exciting co-curricular activities.
Athletics sports, Grade 3-6 Interschool Cross Country & Mother’s Day concert all showcased the abilities of students at Yarra Glen. More than that, they demonstrate that our students are truly developing the five keys to school success.
1. Confidence. We saw lots of examples of risk taking & independent action in each of these activities, which reinforces the idea that it’s good to try something new. It is equally important to accept that, if things go wrong, making a mistake doesn’t make you bad.
2. Resilience. Staying Calm & maintaining perspective in the face of adversity. An excellent example of this quality emerged during the House sports, with Red House finally “bouncing back” to win their first House sports since 2005!
3. Persistence. To be successful, sometimes we have to do things that are not easy or fun. This might be choir rehearsals or giving up lunch times to train for ball games & team sports events, but, doing it and understanding the harder we try the greater the success. This optimism was evident at the cross country, as children accepted that, even though completing the course would be hard to do ,they could (&would) do it.
4. Organization. Setting goals and planning enough time to get things done is another key to success. This thinking led to another memorable Mother’s Day concert and to the success of Red House Captains ,who used every opportunity to train up their team to earn extra bonus points for their final score.
5. Getting along. We also saw our students being tolerant of others and playing by the rules. They demonstrate a general acceptance that people are allowed to be different & that, by following our school rules, our environment will be a better & safer place in which to live & learn.
As parents & caregivers is important to reinforce these positive attributes in our students at every opportunity.
